I am settled into my temporary home in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom for the next couple of weeks. As quiet and tranquil as it is, choices abound.
Today was the Vermont Cheese Festival in Burlington, Vermont, a tempting destination for a vacationing foodie. I didn’t go. I opted to spend the first day of my vacation staying local, getting to know the lay of the land, rather than taking a long road trip to a crowded, expensive event.
Besides, I have a couple of visits with local cheesemakers lined up, including an opportunity to make cheese at the local sheep dairy. I intend to visit goat, sheep and cow dairies right around Craftsbury, and get to know my cheeses (and cheesemakers), if possible, up close and personal.
So, today, I read for a long time, then roamed the back roads for a bit, taking it all in.
I ended up at Bread and Puppet Theater, just in time to catch the circus.
What a perfect way to settle into my new digs. I do love Vermont!

Vermont is a funny place. Enjoy your vacation – looking forward to reading your cheesemaker posts.
I love it here!
I haven’t been to Bread and Puppets in years. Easily a decade. Did you enjoy the show?
I hadn’t seen them in at least twenty years, so it was fun. Not much has changed. It’s an amazing place to visit: such creativity and humor, but so thought-provoking. I’m probably going back for another show while I’m here. Yes, they were great.
What a fun day and a cheese festival to boot! Love the photos – they are speak a sense of relaxation. Have a wonderful time.
Oooo, Bread & Puppet. So jealous! What a fun way to kick off your vaca. Looking forward to hearing about your adventures at the cheese makers! I bought a few E. Fresian’s this year and thought I might give a go at it…. Actually am interested in a mixed milk cheese (sheep/goat) but I’ll be interested to hear what you find out from the sheep people!
